![]() ![]() ![]() Thematically, posthuman/ist literature is concerned with a variety of topics that are associated with figurations of the posthuman: climate change, artificial intelligence, androids and robots, the Anthropocene, enhancement, postanthropocentrism, the question of the animal, object ontology, cyborgisation and dis/embodiment, non/human futures, to name just the most obvious. Through a close reading of some contemporary examples it shows that literature can follow a number of paths to engage with posthumanism (as a discourse) and the posthuman (as a figure) and thus respond to the ongoing (social, technological, ecological…) process of posthumanisation. ![]() It differentiates between a literature of the posthuman and posthumanist literature. This essay discusses the connection between posthumanism, the posthuman, and posthumanisation, on the one hand, and literature, the literary and post-literary (or the survival of literature), on the other hand. The question mark in the title gestures towards the conundrum that something like posthumanist literature might well be a contradiction in terms. ![]() ![]() ![]() it is tacked on at the end, has no point or resolution and seems to be there to add some pages to this story, and, perhaps, because the author needs these characters 'in place' for book 4? No idea. Or with character development: we've already seen tons of pages about Mike, so why do we need this unrelated flashback?I also don't know why we're subjected to an unrelated thread where we start following Paul's journey. The only purpose I can see for this epilogue is so the author can use a short story he wrote about the same characters - because it certainly has nothing to do with these zombie books. And to top it off, the epilogue goes back into the past where we have to hear about Talbot using drugs (I thought he was a marine? drug use doesn't really fit that, does it?). ![]() ![]() It felt like the story should have ended after the battle at Camp Custer since that was the climax of the story, but then it goes on and on and on with dozens more scenes that had no real purpose (i.e. ![]() And a bit less complaining about women, so that is another plus. There is less rectal humor in this one, so that is a big plus. ![]() ![]() Perez realize that to save their family fortune and legacy they will have to move to leave Cuba when Castro threatens to take over their’s and many other’s livelihoods. Describing the Perez family history through Marisol’s visit to Cuba provides the reader a real sense of how it would feel to learn about one’s heritage through travel of where her family originated. Marisol, the granddaughter of one of the daughters of the Senior Perez takes a trip to Cuba in 2017 to spread the remains of her grandmother in the country her grandmother always considered Home.Ĭhanel Cleeton does a wonderful job telling the story of the Perez family during the time in Cuba when Fidel Castro takes over as President.
